The exquisiteness of Paris, the city of lights, is best expressed in images. I endeavor to find the poetry in the moment by spontaneously capturing -- however fleeting -- the people in motion. I sense her refined spirit as I walk down the wide promenades amongst elegant Parisian couples, contemplative individuals, always a bicycle swerving by or laid up against some venerable, glorious scene. I cross the Seine, taking a stroll through the tranquil Luxembourg Gardens. This atmosphere fills me with longing for the romantic energy of my youth, so innocent, free and seductive. I am mesmerized by Paris, my first love, by her magnificent architectural creations, her beauty and intellect, her art and literature. Goethe once said about this city, "that every step upon a bridge or a square recalls a great past, where a fragment of history is unrolled at the corner of every street." In the Marais district, one of my favorite arrondissements, I follow the ancient circuitous routes and paving stone sidewalks to one of the most well designed plazas, the Place des Vosges. Each time I visit Paris I find comfort in sitting on a bench with a good book, or observing the children at play, sometimes laying down to rest on the grass, with the sound of a fountain luring me to a peaceful place inside, before continuing my adventure. Just around the corner I find another world as I come upon the Jewish quarter -- synagogues, kosher butchers and bakeries, and men wearing the kippah, and long lines of people from all walks of life waiting at a Middle Eastern stand to indulge in some of the best falafels I've ever eaten. The impulse Paris gives me is to keep on looking, with an open mind, heart and eye.
